She won't like this post. It's not her style. She's quiet, and perceptive, and doesn't revel in attention. She's generous, without constraint when it comes to giving support and love to her family. She's the one in the background, the contrast that makes everyone else shine. She's selfless, so accustomed to being the strong one, that it's easy to forget to thank her. She's an example, a sounding board, and gives up so much for so many. She's an encouragement, putting herself aside to benefit others who will never know of the sacrifice she's given for decades. She filled in an empty place for her children when disappoint came, or plans changed quickly and unexpectedly. She knew how to be what was needed when they were hurting. She helped her daughters find the blessing in letting go when something seemed unfair. She won't complain, and when she's tired, she'll give a little weary smile, knowing her reward will come. She's a faithful friend, and a worthy confidant. She's everything one could ever want, everything one could ever need. She's my mother. I am so fortunate, but I do wish for one thing more-- that I could be more like her.
Happy Mother's Day, Mom. I love you more than I can say. (And I know you love me enough to forgive me for putting this up here! :)
