I love New England. Drive 2+ hours, and you feel like you're in a totally different world. Nice.
The Maine coastline is awesome, in the real sense of the word. So loud and ferocious, even though it wasn't windy. I think it would be an amazing experience to see this stretch of coastline during a storm. The surf sounded like thunder. But somehow, it was so relaxing in its sound. I love the ocean.
A little shot of George H.W. Bush's humble abode.
Fierce.
This next one is Paul's-- He's becoming quite the photographer lately. Way to go on the negative space, hon'!
Another one of Paul's. I'm liking it:
Look at the reflection in Paul's sunglasses. (Yes, he forgot his razor...)
Look again.
Hello, blog readers! (Do you like my new gloves?)
Beautiful, beautiful weather. It was snowing in CT while we were away. Heehee!
This question can only be answered correctly by 6 people in the world. To my Ryan family, what very unique location do you think this photo reminds me of? Correct guess wins you... um, nothing. Post edit: I changed my mind. There is a prize: 12x18 print of your choice, with 100% profit going to Autism Speaks. I thought I'd jog your memory a little bit... :)
Don't you think Paul deserved a trip for putting up with me for 11 years? 11 years!? What?!
Love you, Paulus!

I know I've used this quote before, but as we were sitting by the ocean, this poem kept running through my mind. It was so appropriate for that moment:
"Break, break, break on thy cold gray stones, oh, sea! And I would that my tongue could utter the thoughts that arise in me."
-Alfred, Lord Tennyson, English poet
(1809-1892 )

"Low lie the fields of Athenry, where once we watched the free birds fly,our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing. It's so lonely round the fields of Athenry." Actually I am thinkin' it might be the craggy Cliffs of Mohr or the Burren. How did I do?
ReplyDeleteWhoa, Coll. 3 answers in one. So which one is it? Only correct, specific answers can win the prize...
ReplyDeleteActually we didn't ever go to the fields of Athenry so that wasn't an answer. But I am leaning towards the cliffs.
ReplyDeleteMy answer is the Burren because of the beautiful flowers springing out of the rocks!
ReplyDelete...and the ocean in the background....
ReplyDeleteUMM.... ??? What they said?! KZ
ReplyDeleteKatie, did you go with us to Ireland? I think I remember you and something about a banana and the back seat of a blue VW (award winning)!
ReplyDeleteMom
It was actually butter and bread. Don't you remember?!? Katie and I really enjoyed the splendid vehicle!
ReplyDeleteThe one of you with your new gloves made me laugh. It is such a neat photo.
ReplyDeleteYou two were so annoying in the backseat with your butter and bread. Remember how MAD Melinda got?!?! :)
ReplyDeleteColl, we did too go to the Fields Of Athenry, it was in that little town I was asked directions by a livery truck while watching the locals at hurling....
ReplyDeleteI had em fooled til I opened my mouth remember.
kjr
I heard I was not a very nice member of the family during that trip and Yes Kara they were so annoying in the back of that stupid van!!! I say the Burren also because of the flower growing out of the rocks!!! That is OK though I am wishing I had a better outlook on that trip seeing as it was the last one we ever took as a family. :( too bad I didn't have the forsight to see that at the time.
ReplyDeleteAww, Min, stop making me feel all nostalgic! And kjr, funny you should remember that they thought you were a local. That was definitely a feel-good moment, ha? :)
ReplyDeletesoooooo who is the winner???
ReplyDeleteSome people may think we are all a bunch of winners!
ReplyDeleteMom
love mom's comment! nice to share memories with family. i thought it was someplace in ireland, i was guessing the east coast. tell paul good job.
ReplyDeleteThe winner is Colleen, as she answered correctly first- with the Burren. And, because, as you may know, I have a soft spot for a good set of Irish lyrics, which she aptly supplied! It's your choice what print you want, Coll-- from a family shoot, or any art print. Congratulations! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! It took me awhile to see this! Thanks Betsy! I will have to look them over again!
