Joy: (n) a source or cause of keen pleasure or delight; something or someone greatly valued or appreciated

Sometimes a new beginning really starts with things that are already passed. Things like childhood memories, and old friends. Things like laughter, and joy and tears. Sometimes something secure starts with something weak and shaky, tenuous and fragile. Time builds experience, and strength can come from adversity.

Aly & Chris know of many of these things- of childhood and joy, and laughter-- and then tears of grief over losing a brother. They've been through many things through the years they've been together. They have leaned on each other in good times, and held closely through times of sorrow. Throughout their wedding day, all of those milestones were remembered. It brought back so many memories for everyone. There's a bond with Aly & Chris for many reasons; one of which is the time of learning and growth through loss. It's hard to believe that almost 11 years ago Paul and I were starting on a similar beginning, tears mixed in with joy.

Aly & Chris, I am so glad Paul and I got to share your day. Thanks for giving us the opportunity. Our hope for you is more times of refreshing than times of sorrow, more times of joy than times of tears, and many days filled with thankfulness and blessing.

Sneak Peek - Newness

'Such a happy feeling to go through these images. I have my work cut out for me-- BIG time-- trying to narrow these down, so I figured I'd give a tiny taste here to hold Aly & Chris over.

I have really enjoyed getting to know both of you better, Aly & Chris. I don't know what I'm going to do now that you don't have any more sessions scheduled... 'Guess we'll have to get together for dinner sometime. You've both become more than clients. Paul and I are so glad we can count you as our friends. We wish you so many, many blessings throughout your marriage.

So remember the spot I mentioned in Sydney's sneak peek post, where we found a random little treasure? We had this neat concrete wall backdrop/loading dock thingy, and I was so happy with the texture and light there. As we were leaving, I commented to Sydney how much I loved the location. I turned around to get one last look, and then I saw it-- a very random, leather, kind of beaten-up looking couch that was just forlornly looking as if it needed to be used as a prop. Of course, I obliged. Now, I realize that these may not be the kind of photos one would blow up into huge images for display, but doesn't it make for a neat shot? :) Sydney agreed.





We had a few good laughs about our choice of prop:

Here is a look into a beautiful evening shoot with soft, filtered light for photographing-- As well as some haze, humidity, and ridiculous heat. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
